Liverpool 1 CP 1

For once, CP held a lead on Liverpool, but could not maintain it.  In any case, CP has a long record of struggling with Liverpool, and losing badly, so this was nothing to complain about.

  1. A strange game, in some ways, although I did not see it. CP took a 1-0 lead at 27 minutes. A head-butting incident nets a red card for Liverpool's Nunez after 57 minutes. Sort-handed Liverpool ties it at 61 minutes. Two matches in, and Liverpool has yet to win, having drawn twice against Fulham and CP.

  2. I saw the whole game. Liverpool dominated the first half. Vieira clearly had decided to defend and go for the counter, and between a lovely turn and pass from Eze (what a good young player!) and a masterful run and finish from Zaha, it paid off. Diaz's equalizer after the red card was very very good. He beat three or four defenders on the dribble to make space for a shot, which curled inside the far post. It really was mostly the Reds on attack even with ten players.

Nunez not only headbutted Anderson (I think it was him) face to face, he previously rammed the back of his head into his face a few seconds before, which was why the confrontation occurred. It was a red that was richly deserved.

Both teams played well. Palace was a bit unlucky not to score against Arsenal too. They look pretty solid to me. They've made the transition from an aging squad on the edge of a relegation scrap to one with a multiyear future in the EPL, in my opinion.
