Pat Viera is said to be new manager for Strasbourg on a three year deal. All of we Palace fans wish him well.

I don't know why it didn't work out for Vieira at Palace. He'd assembled a promising young set of players to take the team forward from their oldest-in-the-league roster, but he didn't get the best out of them. I don't think Hodgson is the answer if Palace wants to progress, but he's been given a year to do something. The owners will take that year to line up a long term replacement when Roy goes back into retirement.
ReplyDeleteI think Roy did well to put Palace back on track, but it might not even be a bad move to bring Viera back. Viera's team was in a slump that Hodgson got them out of, but Viera's long term strategy was sound. Roy is too old a boy, just like me and needs to be either put out to pasture of used wisely for short term improvements in performance, not a whole season. Eze did well, but Zaha is getting old.
DeleteSeldom does a manager return to the scene of the crime, and it's usually a bad idea. He'll probably take the lessons learned from his Palace stint and use them at Strasbourg, where he's just signed a three year contract.
