Neither team played well enough to win today, or poorly enough to lose. This was the first home game in 57 that Chelsea failed to score. Arsenal lost the last seven at the Etihad. This point is great. Liverpool's earlier win means they're two up on us and three on City. Well, the job is still the same: win every game and hope the competition doesn't.
Not a surprising result. Neither team could figure out how to generate effective offense against solidly competent, if sometimes flawed, defense.
ReplyDeleteBoth coaches set up their teams not to lose. It was finely poised. City was at home, but they had some important defenders out injured (Ake after the first half hour of this game). Arsenal usually has a big midfield advantage, but not yesterday. Rodri was immense. Our central defenders throttled Haaland and his wingmen.
DeleteLiverpool does not look like a squad that is going to waltz through the rest of their schedule. They have the advantage of playing Europa league instead of Champions' League, meaning they might rest an important player each game, but they will want to win it and that could backfire.
