We got outcoached and outplayed in the CONCACAF Nations League semis, falling to los Canaleros in the 94th minute. I didn't see the game, but apparently we gave the ball away and the finish was very good. It was Panama's only shot on target all game. I guess they get to keep the canal.
We have usually done well against Panama. although Costa Rica has caused us some problems. In any case, we have not dominated those smaller nations as much as one might think we should.
ReplyDeletePanama knocked us out of a recent tournament {Gold Cup?) so there was no surprise when they played us tough. The US was naive. We should have been tight until extra time, when our depth would have ground them down. Instead, we gave this one away. Los Canaleros play el Tri in the final; we get Canada in the third place game. Everyone was aware of the political ramifications with these four nations. The world is happy we lost. I'm not, but I don't blame them for reveling in our failure.
