The succession of dropped points has been dispiriting, but the reaction on the blog I follow from alleged "supporters" of Arsenal has been much worse. It's a stream of profanity-laced invective against a group of young men who were only two months ago hailed as heroes by this same gaggle of football addicts. It's embarrassingly stupid behavior. Most of the posts assert that the Gunners are perennial "bottlers" and Manchester City is now certain to win the league. And it gets worse. I can't follow these people where they're going. The second post in this blog was sage advice to myself, and I'm going to follow it by dialing back my angst and putting some distance between me and Arsenal. I may post after games if I feel like it.
History.
ReplyDeleteHere's a low point for you
Way back in 1980, MU blasted Arsenal 46-1, in a 'friendly', behind closed doors. Such are the fortunes of football that I'm quite certain Arsenal had revenge a few matches later. Happens in the best of families.
CP has their own share of embarassments.
Arsenal is usually at the top or near to it, going way back into the early 1900s. MC has had a strong run in recent years.
ReplyDeleteArsenal is the only club never to have been relegated from the top tier. Man U and Liverpool have won the league title more times, though the Gunners have the most FA Cups. Today, football success requires lots on money, though it does not guarantee it.
